But when Mr Wung accidently slipped, his monkeys took advantage and decked him with a kick to the head. According to The Sun, the gang then swarmed over their master. By MARCO SIBAJA Marco Sibaja BRASILIA, Brazil – The stepfather of a 2-year-old boy found with 42 sewing needles in his body confessed to jabbing them into the toddler during a month of rituals with a lover who he claimed received instructions through trances, Brazilian police said Thursday. Roberto Carlos Magalhaes, a 30-year-old bricklayer, told detectives the woman went into trances and would "command him to stick the needles in the boy's body," police inspector Helder Fernandes Santana said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. The woman, Angelina Ribeiro dos Santos, paid to have the needles measuring up to 2 inches (5 centimeters) blessed by a woman who practices the Afro-Brazilian religion Candomble and convinced Magalhaes that inserting them into the boy would somehow allow them to be together, Santana said. Police, however, believe she was out for revenge on the mother. The two held sessions every few days over a full month in which Magalhaes stuck the needles into the boy several at a time, Santana said. "According to his confession, he acted under influence of the woman, but it was he who stuck the needles in the boy's body," the inspector said. Magalhaes and dos Santos were arrested, though no charges have yet been filed. Dos Santos is not believed to be a member of any religious or occult group, and authorities believe she came up with the idea of the rituals on her own, Santana said. Authorities also detained the woman who blessed the needles so she could be questioned, but Santana said he expects she will be released without charge because she did not know how they were being used. Magalhaes denied involvement when he was first questioned on Monday, but confessed after police detained him on Wednesday, Santana said. An enraged crowd of more than 100 people surrounded and hurled rocks at the police station in the small northeastern city of Ibotirama, where the suspects were held Wednesday night. Santana said they broke out a window of his own car because they wrongly believed the suspects were in it. Extra police were called in to restore order and protect the suspects. They were then taken to an undisclosed lockup for their own protection, and it was not immediately clear whether they had legal representation. The child was airlifted to a hospital in northeastern Brazil on Thursday because two of the needles are close to his heart, but it was not immediately clear when doctors might be able to remove them. Surgeons in the city of Barreiras in Bahia state, where the boy had been hospitalized since Sunday, had decided not to try to remove any needles immediately for fear they could cause more damage. Doctors located 42 needles in the boy, who was in stable condition after a 240-mile (390-kilometer) flight to the hospital in the coastal city of Salvador that has a special heart unit. Hospital spokeswoman Susy Moreno said an evaluation of when to perform surgery on the boy probably would not be finished until Friday. He was in an intensive care unit but was conscious, had undergone a battery of X-rays and was receiving antibiotics, a hospital statement said. While the boy was admitted with some internal bleeding, the blood was drained and he did not appear in imminent danger of more bleeding. I don't know for sure in your instance. I should think the government would have to prove you knew you were getting more than you should. I have heard of cases where mom died and the kid kept cashing the checks. I suppose you would have a chance to pay back the money before they try to put you in jail.

DRUG DEALING TEACHERS ARRESTED IN STING OPERATION A police task force has arrested two former school teachers caught selling class-1 drugs, to youths in the Sattahip Region, near Pattaya. Police have been monitoring the residence of the pair for sometime, witnessing a steady flow of traffic in an out of the premises. They apprehended the suspects following a sting operation. Pattaya, the 15th of December 2009 [PDN]: Sattahip Assistant District Chief Officer (SADCO) Mr. Surachet Kaewkum and his team of police, including the Civil and Territorial Defence Volunteers had been watching the residence at Soi Thamavittaya, 34/15 Moo 2, Sattahip, suspecting that the occupants were selling drugs to the local youths. During the short stakeout, officers observed many teenagers walking in and out of the house, not staying inside the premises for more than a few minutes each time. A report was then filed with the Sattahip District Chief Officer, who gave permission for his assistant to carry out a sting operation on the residence. They sent the previously mentioned young man back into the house to purchase some more Yah-Bah from a lady now known to be Mrs. Pawanrat Passatranon, [65]. The plan involved providing the boy with the money for the drugs, having taken photocopies of the notes beforehand. The boy emerged from the house in possession of more drugs, at which point SADCO Mr. Kaewkum and his team of officers stormed the premises and arrested Mrs Pawanrat, beginning a search of the house. After a brief investigation, police found 6 Yah-Bah tablets hidden in plastic straws, 4461 baht in cash, 4 mobile phones, 4 bank books and a large amount of ATM transaction receipts. During the search police also apprehended another suspect Mr. Narong Passatranon [62], Mrs. Pawanrat’s husband who was trying to flee the premises by jumping out of a window. Officers interrogated Mrs Pawanrat who confessed to selling the drugs as she and her husband had accumulated a 60,000 baht dept with illegal money lenders, which they could not afford to pay. Mrs Pawanrat admitted she had held respected jobs within the community over the years, including: Social Worker, Community Leader, Assistant Village Headman and was a teacher at the Thamawittaya School. She also stated that she had been a member of the "War on Drugs" Center and a very active local healthcare volunteer, explaining that she only decided to deal drugs out of necessity to cover the payments on her illegal loan. Mrs Pawanrat informed police that she and her husband had attempted to earn money by starting a variety of other legitimate small businesses at which they had failed to make any money, subsequently placing them further in debt. Mr. Narong admitted that he to was involved in supply drugs to various teenagers in the Sattahip region further adding that he was a former teacher from a school in Rayong. The pair also stated that they had not thought that they would be caught or arrested due to their extensive contacts within the local government. Mr. Kaewkum, SADCO said that they had been alerted to the suspected drug dealings by concerned parents of the children from accused previous school, who had reported to police that the youths were purchasing drugs from the Passatranon’s house. It has been reported that various students of the school are willing to give evidence against Mr and Mrs Passatranon in court. I had no idea that McDonald's even had wi fi and free makes it even better. Does anyone know if Thailand's McDonald's has wi fi? Alongside Starbucks, McDonald's was one of the early (if unlikely) pioneers in putting equipment Wi-Fi into its restaurants. The goal of course was to get people to linger in the establishments (and buy more food while they're there) -- 11,000 of McD's 14,000 locations now have Wi-Fi available -- instead of just grabbing their McNuggets and jetting for greener pastures. The catch: McWi-Fi historically cost $2.95 for a two-hour block of time... perhaps a bit much even for the average Mickey D's consumer, weaned on the ultra-cheap dollar menu, to stomach. Now McDonald's is taking a bold step and jettisoning the fee. Beginning in mid-January, Wi-Fi access at all McDonald's locations that offer the service will become free, making it (to my knowledge) the largest provider of free wireless services in the country. One also wonders how many parking lots will fill with laptop users grabbing a taste of the signal. Heru Nugroho, the group's creator, said he would use the support on the popular social networking Web site to demand that Jakarta Gov. Fauzi Bowo remove the statue. "Everybody knows that Obama is a world leader, but he is not our national hero who deserves to be awarded a statue," Nugroho said. "This has hurt our national pride because there are many Indonesian figures who gave worthy service to this nation but no statue has been built for them," he added. A separate, English-language Facebook site with the same name was created by a California man and has attracted about 100 members, mostly in the U.S. Many Indonesians are proud of the fact that Obama lived in Jakarta from 1967 to 1971 with his American mother, his Indonesian stepfather and his half-sister. He went by the name "Barry," attended the local elementary school near where his statue now stands and owned a pet monkey. When traveling in Northern Vietnam, I went to a market in a small town. I was surprised to see two dogs in a cage for sale. They looked to be similar to a husky breed. The guide said they will be slaughtered for food. I didn’t see any cats for sale.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – The U.N.-assisted tribunal trying former leaders of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge has charged two defendants with genocide for the first time. Tribunal spokesman Lars Olsen said Wednesday the co-investigating judges issued the charges this week against the group's top ideologist, Nuon Chea, and former foreign minister, Ieng Sary. The tribunal is seeking justice for an estimated 1.7 million people who died from execution, overwork, disease and malnutrition as a result of the ultra-communist group's policies during its 1975-79 rule. Nuon Chea and Ieng Sary have already been charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity, as well as homicide and torture. They are being held in the tribunal's jail and are expected to be tried next year. Olsen said they were charged with involvement in the deaths of members of the country's ethnic Cham and Vietnamese communities. Some Chams, who are mostly Muslims, were among the few Cambodians to actively resist Khmer Rouge rule. The Khmer Rouge brutally suppressed the rebellions, which occurred in several villages. Prejudice against Vietnamese runs high among many Cambodians, who see their eastern neighbor as predatory. The Khmer Rouge shared the communist ideology with Vietnam but had very strained relations with it, and mistrusted even veteran members of their own group with ties to Hanoi. They launched bloody attacks against Vietnamese border villages, which in late 1978 resulted in an invasion by Vietnam that ousted them from power. The tribunal tried its first defendant, prison chief Kaing Guek Eav, this year on charges of crimes against humanity, war crimes, murder and torture. Kaing Guek Eav, also known as Duch, commanded S-21 prison in Phnom Penh, where up to 16,000 people were tortured and taken away to be killed. A verdict is expected next year, and he faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment if found guilty. Cambodia has no death penalty.
