If any US citizen in Pattaya needs an income verification letter for your retirement visa, they can be had on November 19 at the Dusit Thani Hotel. The American consular will visit Pattaya on Thursday from 8 AM to 12 noon. I do not believe they are able to provide a full array of services as the embassy, but can provide the verification letter and answer questions

7 Dead And many Injured In Fort Hood Shooting
Wino replied to Beer Chang's topic in World News and Politics
The conservatives are playing up the phrase Hasan is reported to have yelled when he started shooting. Allauh Akbar was the same phrase heard on the 9-11 cockpit voice recorders. In Mohamed Atta’s writings he is quoted, “When the confrontation begins, strike like champions who do not want to go back to this world. Shout, ‘Allahu Akbar,’ because this strikes fear in the hearts of the non-believers.†I am willing to wait for the results of the full investigation ,but if some of the reports hold true, I may tend to think this was an act of terrorism. -
No, I don't think so.

I think that is a wise move. Enjoy KL. Malacca is an interesting side trip. The old Portuguese port is well worth the visit.

Almost Half of Thai Men Smoke?
Wino replied to WannaGo's topic in Living, Playing, and Reminiscing about Thailand
Surprisingly tobacco use in the US has risen recently, after many years of decline. I believe smokers are about 20% in the US. -
There are so many more useful ways to use beeswax, than to inject it into your body. I would much rather see beeswax used to help the environment. With the help of NASA technology, they now use beeswax to clean up oil spills

Airport Officials Spend 1.7 Million Baht to Move Statues
Wino replied to Wino's topic in Thailand News
Wannago is in good company with his mild triskaidekaphobe. It is said that Henry Ford, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Napolean were very cautious on Friday the 13. Apollo 13 took of at 1313 military time and look at what happened on that trip. In the US, have you noticed that in elevators the numbers go from 12 to 14. Who knows? -
This study in Uganda has found that size matters when talking about the foreskin and AIDS prevention. HIV researchers still believe that circumcision does help men in preventing the spread of HIV. Size matters when it comes to AIDS defense WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Men with larger foreskins are more likely to become infected with the AIDS virus, researchers said Wednesday in a finding that helps explain why circumcision can protect men. The study of 965 men in Uganda, all without AIDS at the start, showed those with larger foreskins were more likely to become infected. Infection rates correlated with the size of the foreskin, Dr. Godfrey Kigozi of Johns Hopkins University's Rakai Health Sciences Program in Uganda and colleagues found. "Mean foreskin surface area was significantly higher among men who acquired HIV," they wrote in the journal AIDS. Several studies have shown that circumcision -- removal of the foreskin -- can protect men, but not their female sex partners, from HIV. It does not completely prevent infection but reduces the risk. Researchers believe the foreskin has many immune cells called dendritic cells, which may provide a route into the body for the virus. Kigozi's team looked at men getting circumcised for one of the studies in Uganda. "The surface area of the foreskin was measured after surgery using standardized procedures," they wrote. http://news.yahoo.co...s_aids_foreskin

Because one does not believe in ghosts or hauntings, due to the fact of no experience or lack of scientific verification, does not mean it should be dismissed as hocus pocus. Religion or God cannot be scientifically verified but about 85% of the world believes in some form of this belief system. I would guess a majority of Thais believe in ghosts. When so many people believe in something, I think there may be something to it. On the flip side, at one time, most everyone believed the earth to be flat. I am not a religion supporter since it has caused much misery throughout the centuries, but I do, to some extent, believe in the spirit world.

A guy showing up to the courthouse has to be raised under some rock or by she-wolves. It is bad enough that the bailiff has to tell guys to take off their ball caps.

Seems like a lot of money to spend on "demon statues." Many Thai people believe in this demon spirits and so I guess it is worthi it to them. Thailand's main airport is to relocate 12 giant "demon statues" to boost the morale of staff who thought the figures brought bad luck, local media and officials said Tuesday. The statues at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport will move from the arrivals area to the check-in zone at a cost of around 1.7 million baht (51,000 dollars), said Airports of Thailand (AOT) president Serirat Prasutanond. "AOT has decided to move the statues to the check-in concourse to give passengers and other people a chance to appreciate the statues' beauty," he said in a statement. But according to the English-language Bangkok Post newspaper, airport director Niran Thiranartsin admitted the decision had partly resulted from complaints from airport staff. "The shopkeepers are blaming the 'demon statues' for the problems they have faced at the airport, which was seized late last year by demonstrators and supporters of the People's Alliance of Democracy" (PAD), the paper said. "The guardian spirit statues will be shifted from the inner zone of the passenger terminal to the check-in area to 'improve morale' of people working at the airport," the report added. The anti-government PAD seized two of the Thai capital's airports in a crippling eight-day blockade late in 2008, which badly dented the kingdom's tourist-friendly image. Serirat presided over a religious ceremony at the airport Monday ahead of the relocation of the figures, which are modelled on 12 statues at Bangkok's Grand Palace. He said the move should be finished within 90 days. http://news.ph.msn.c...umentid=3698557

Clinton Wants Myanmar to Begin Planning 2010 Elections
Wino replied to WannaGo's topic in Thailand News
I do not think they want to give up power. My opinion is they want it to appear that they are having open and free elections to appease the world community, but want to still be in control. -
It is suppose to save energy. If it does, it is well worth switching back and forth.

Rumor has it that you are in the same class as Levi Johnston. Probably not true, but some reporter wrote the reason he did not want to show it all in Playgirl Magazine, was because he came up short.
-
That sounds like a steal of a deal for KL. Grab it before it disappears. I don't think you will find any better.

Another "too dumb" category is the guy that robbed the 7-11 wearing his brother's army jacket. He forgot that it clearly printed his last name on the front of the jacket.

More news about Levi. He is in NY and accepting a Fleshbot award. He was in the middle of a media blitz. His trainer, Tank Jones was very protective of the Wasilla boy. According to this article he is a man of few words. On accepting the long, silver, cylindrical award, he thanked Fleshbot and The Box and told everyone to buy his issue of Playgirl. http://gawker.com/5403193/in-the-eye-of-the-levi-johnston-media-hurricane?skyline=true&s=i I saw a clip of Pallin in the Oprah interview. Oprah wanted to know if Levi was invited to Thanksgiving dinner. Seems Sarah may be holding out an olive branch to young Levi.

Fox network and the conservatives are having a field day with the news that Barney Frank’s boyfriend was arrested for drug possession, cultivation and drug paraphernalia back in 2007. They blame the liberal press for not reporting the details. Now they find out that Barney was present when the marijuana arrest was made at James Ready’s home in Ogunquit, Maine. I like Barney Frank and think he is a smart guy but he sure has boyfriend problems. First boyfriend, Steve Gobie runs a prostitution ring out of his DC apartment and now this guy gets nailed for possession and growing pot. I also like Barney’s statement about he wouldn’t recognize a marijuana plant if he saw one because he is not a great outdoorsman. I am gullible but for some reason, I just don’t believe that statement. Sounds a bit like Bill Clinton when he said he didn’t inhale.

Here is another example of some crazy guy. Is this insanity or stupidity? LONDON (Reuters) – A British man on the run from police sent a picture of himself to his local paper because he disliked the mugshot they had printed of him as part of a public appeal to track him down. South Wales Police had issued media with the photo of Matthew Maynard, wanted by officers investigating a house burglary, as part of a crackdown on crime in Swansea. When it appeared in the South Wales Evening Post, the 23-year-old sent the newspaper a replacement photo of himself standing in front of a police van. They obligingly printed it on the front page. The police thanked him for helping them in their appeal, saying: "Everyone in Swansea will know what he looks like now." http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091109/od_nm/us_mugshot_odd

We see mini shirts and skimpy outfits in many places. A Brazilian college campus is probably not the best place to wear a mini, but come on, it is part of life. The near riot reaction to the mini shirt is mind boggling.
