It is tough for an older person to give up the independence that a vehicle allow them to have. When we had to take the keys away from my father, it was a major issue. A year later, he still threatened to walk up to the local car dealer and buy another one. I have no idea why this 68 year old woman is so determined to drive, but I still admire her spunk.

What a very sad situation. Richmond, California had a very similiar situation where there was a gang rape of a 15 year old girl on school property. The Romania and Russia Olympic gymnasts of years past come to mind. Weren't those girls about 13 or 14 years old? They must have been training for years in order to be good enough to win a medal. Tiger Woods also comes to mind. I think his dad put a golf club in his hand at a very early age. Of course, golf is not as physically demanding as other sports, but psychologically there still may be repercussions.

I should think courts are more sophisticated these days and not fall for the "look, I am crazy" routine. Might get him a psych evaluation but then the defendant would have to fool a health care professional. In most cases, I should think fooling a psychiatrist would be a difficult thing to do.

I think the key word here is “generally.†Typically the powers that be in Thailand send their children to the best schools. Look at the prime minister’s educational background. Thailand is changing somewhat and the emerging middle class are able to better educate their offspring. To answer your question, just because a person is able to obtain a higher education, due to scholarship or any other way, does not put them in the elite category. Who knows, maybe in a generation or two, things may be different.

Doctors are human too and it takes all kinds. I know a physician that knows enough to go to a specialist when needed. He is smart enough to seek the advice of more than one doctor. After a review of the findings, he adheres to the specialist's advice.

I find that the wisdom, confidence and comfort level I have attained now with age is much preferable. Now the aches and pains that go along with ageing is another issue. Overall, if health issues are not a problem, I would much rather be in my 40's, 50's or 60's than be in my teens or 20's.

I bet there are a lot of funny sotires. When I was just a young lad, I remember my sister telling how her friend flunked the driving test. Your nerves are shot when you are sixteen and taking your driving test for the first time. In this particular case, the driving instructor told her to make the next left. She did and flunked the test. It was a one way street.
