Monks are getting it, but how about monkeys?

Of course, the citizens decide. And if a large majority find it stupid they usually just ignore it. Takes way too much time and efforts to change it. If you would like to see some of the dumb laws on the book, check out this website. http://www.dumblaws.com/laws/united-states/alabama

A choice, like the convicted felon is asked, do you want to be shot by the firing squad or sent to the electric chair? Not much of a choice, but still a choice.

All the article said about the agreement was "that is mutually beneficial with the shared objective of ensuring continued growth and sustainability of GM and the Chevrolet brand in Thailand and around the region." "The agreement accords employees an opportunity to benefit directly from that success," it said, providing no further details. I am not sure what "benefit directly from that success" might mean. Maybe pay is tied to productivity? I have no idea.

ONE TOURIST DIES AND ANOTHER HOSPITALIZED FROM SPIKED DRINKS

You sound like you would be one of those "hanging judges" of the old west. Even though lady justice is blindfolded, there are circumstances that need to be considered in every trial. -
Must be a half an hour quickie.

This is the only time I experienced the organized border run. Don't get me wrong, it is not a trip I look forward to doing again. The breakfast and lunch were included but wasn't anything to brag about. Although the mini van was comfortable, I would rather been lounging on the beach. There was a small line at the border but the company filled out the paperwork and all I did was sign it. Met some other farangs and learned about cheap shopping in Cambodia. All in all, it was an alright trip.

Here is an article by Christopher Null that states there may be a price war over notebooks and netbooks in the very near future. Here is the story. Remember Compaq? Hewlett-Packard acquired the venerable computer company way back in 2002, but it's kept the name alive as a secondary brand ever since, mainly relegating Compaq to overseas markets (Compaq is particularly popular in Asia) and as second-tier PCs sold on the cheap at warehouse-style stores. But now HP is looking to breathe a little new life into the Compaq brand, positioning it not just as a label for extremely cheap computer equipment but also as one with mainstream appeal in the U.S. Today the company is announcing the rollout of a line of ultra-inexpensive PCs, both laptops and desktops, with extreme budgets in mind. Consider first the Compaq CQ61z (pictured), a 15.6-inch laptop with an AMD Sempron CPU, 2GB of RAM, DVD burner, 160GB hard drive, and discrete graphics. Running Windows 7 Home Premium, the machine costs a nearly unfathomable $399. That price point probably sounds familiar -- it's the usual cost for your average netbook, which in comparison offers a tiny screen, minimal hard drive, and an ultra-low-power Atom CPU. With the $400 laptop's arrival, Compaq wants potential buyers to ask: Why not jump up to a much larger and more capable system for exactly the same price? I'm having a hard time seeing any reason not to. Seriously, it even has a numeric keypad. Even better bargains abound for desktop shoppers. The attractive Compaq Presario 4010f has similar specs (with a 250GB hard drive) and starts at just $309 after a $100 rebate. Both systems are available on Windows 7 launch day, October 22. Compaq's aggressively inexpensive hardware -- particularly the $399 laptop -- could have massive ramifications for the computer market. Will netbooks finally feel the pinch that they've been giving to standard laptops for two years now? And what kind of pressure will machines like this bring to bear on more expensive notebook PCs? Price war in 3... 2... 1... http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/152839

ONE TOURIST DIES AND ANOTHER HOSPITALIZED FROM SPIKED DRINKS

Not sure if the Indian authorities complained about this particular situation, but seems there has been problems with Indian citizens and scam artists in Pattaya. Here is an article from Pattaya One News: Pattaya, October 13 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : The Tourism Authority of Thailand Region 3, which covers the Pattaya area, recently received complaints from authorities in India regarding the treatment of Indian Tourists who come to Pattaya by some business operators and their staff. These complaints are being treated very seriously as the Tourism Authority are specifically targeting Indian Tourists in their current campaigns to attract more foreign Tourists to the Kingdom. They are also concerned about local criminals who are targeting Indian Tourists who appear to be easy targets for them. Efforts are now being made to rectify these problems in time for the next High Season and it is expected that Indian’s will make up a large proportion of foreign tourists who come to Thailand within the next 6 months. There are some who have criticized the Tourism Authority for not consulting business operators prior to the recent campaigns which may have resolved problems before they occurred. Here in Pattaya further consultations are expected to take place involving businesses and local Police Divisions including the Tourist Police who will be asked to identify and arrest those criminals who are targeting Indian Tourists. http://www.pattayaone.net/news/2009/october/news_13_10_52_4.shtml -
It saddens me to see that you had to ban a member. The free exchange of thoughts, opinions and information is the centerpoint for most of these board. Too bad a member cannot play by the rules.

Here is an instance where the mayor of Pattaya attends a VIP function and the next night the police raid. Maybe the mayor saw some things he did not like? Interesting to see that they random drug tested the patrons and staff. Pattaya, October 14 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : Mixx Discotheque is located at the Bali Hai Plaza close to the Southern Entrance to Walking Street and opened its doors on 12th September 2007. On Monday Night they celebrated their 2nd Anniversary with many VIP’s attending, including the Mayor of Pattaya. Just 24 hours later they received some uninvited guests in the form of Pattaya Police Officers, led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutum, the Deputy Chief of Pattaya Police, who conducted a raid on Mixx Discotheque which included random drug testing of patrons and staff members. This is not the first time the venue has received such a visit by Police Officers and on this occasion they were found to be open after their permitted licensed opening hours and a total of 7 patrons were found to have recently consumed methamphetamine which was indicated by the urine tests. The manager of the venue was arrested and taken to Pattaya Police Station for questioning and the case report has been sent to the Banglamung District Licensing Unit for their consideration. http://www.pattayaone.net/news/2009/october/news_14_10_52.shtml

Not according to this blog by James Poniewozik "Lately the Obama Administration has—in TIME and other outlets—been actively going on the attack against Fox News. The Administration, and Obama himself, have had run-ins with Fox before, but this time the message is different: they're characterizing the cable channel as not just a conservative outlet, but as a political organization, devoted to undermining the White House and defeating its policies." The following is an article by David Coursey. Sounds interesting. A new specification, called Wi-Fi Direct, provides peer-to-peer connections between Wi-Fi devices, no hotspot required. That could be bad news for Bluetooth, but good news for customers. http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/173669/new_wifi_direct_gets_peertopeer_connections.html

That is the way I understand it. Dave and Merrill go way back before Dave was famous. They dated then lived together. Merrill was working as a writer for Dave and is the creator of the "dumb pet tricks."

I did not realize there was any union activity in Thailand. Good for the GM workers. I hope they receive a decent rate of pay for a decent day's work.

Put yourself in the prostitute's place. You are usually scantily clad, you have people pawing you and you have to go to bed with mostly older, sometimes smelly and fat characters. Would you feel degraded or is it, "you just don't like your job?" They choose it over a straight job because it pays more. That is the choice many a poor Isaan girl or boy has. Work hard labor in the field for less than a living wage, or else go to the big city and degrade yourself. Is that much of a choice?

So that is what that is all about. I saw a typo and was trying to edit one of my old posts. I could not find the edit button but I did end up giving myself a -1 reputation.
