True Phuket is more expensive than other parts of Thailand but it has some beautiful beaches with lovely white sand. For people from the West, it is still inexpensive.

Yes, that is true, but do not remember the boat schedule or the price. It is 20 baht to go to the main city on Ko Larn but I think it is 40 baht to go to the beach side. The boats are fairly frequent in the morning. You might go to the end of the pier and ask. There are many private tourist boats that want to charge a couple of hundred baht to take you but just go to the end of the pier and ask.

I am the same way. The way they tried to pick my pocket was the ladyboy sat next to me with a big flat package that covered her lap and part of mine. I was having a good conversation with my friend and she keeps leaning closer to me. Of course, I moved over as much as I could and went on talking. Finally, I felt something on my leg and called her on it. She and her friend immediately rang the bell and got off.

Hard to believe that Thai's would enforce work permit rules in a time of disaster. Makes no sense. I have also heard that some native English speakers wanted to volunteer to help with English classes in a Thai school. No can do without a work permit. Is that crazy?

Also beware of ladyboys on baht buses. On a trip to Jomtiem, I have had a couple of ladyboys attempt to pick my pockets. Have heard stories of farangs being relieved of their wallets on crowded baht buses.

"Walking Street" is an experience and should be seen at least once. Like Lvdkeyes says, it is a tourtist trap, but usually has high energy and an interesting place to be. I am with you Bob and like to pick out a spot and just watch the world go by. What a wild mix of people to watch!

I think Rio is a good choice. Nice that South America has a chance to show the world what they have to offer. Let's hope the country will pull it off without any hitches. I would love to visit Brazil but don't think carnival or the Olympics would be the best time for a virgin visitor to do the Rio experience.

The full moon is on November 2 of this year. Is the festival in Chiang Mai November 1, 2, and 3? I will probably not be able to attend the Chiang Mai festival this year, but am interested to know if the festival is the three days before the full moon. Thanks.
