It all depends on the manner by which you wish to stay. You can find decent rooms for as little as 300 baht per day. I would say the average price for hotels, other than luxury hotels, is between 1000 to 1500 baht per night. Food can cost whatever you want. If you want to stick to Thai street food, you can easily eat for 100 to 200 baht per day. Public transportation is relatively inexpensive. Entertainment depends on what interests you and how much you are willing to spend. If, as WannaGo said, you want to stay for more of a long term, then if you are going to stay in the same city mot of the time you can rent a condo for about half the price, often less, than you would pay in a hotel. Most condo holiday rentals charge a minimum of a one month stay, but if you do the math you might discover that paying for a month at a condo, even if you are not going to stay for a full month, may still be much less expensive than staying in hotels.

I sincerely doubt that Thai is a language that can be learned only from a book and CDs. You will do far better simply being in Thailand and listening carefully to what people say and how they say it. If you are seriously interested in learning Thai I urge you to take classes or even better, hire a tutor. Then practice with Thai people. Thai is a tonal language. Getting the tones correct seems to be the most difficult part for many foreigners. But you do have to try. All too often the Thai person you are speaking to will not understand unless you get the tones correct.

Rye Bread This is my favorite Rye Bread recipe: Ingredients: 1 cup water ½ cup milk or buttermilk 2¾ cups bread flour 1 cup Rye flour 2 tablespoons butter 1/3 cup brown sugar 2 teaspoons Caraway seed 1½ teaspoons salt 1½ teaspoons yeast 1½ cups chopped onion If you bake it in an oven, glaze it with raw egg white before you bake it. This also works well in a bread machine. Select BASIC setting and LIGHT CRUST. Add the Caraway seed and the onions after the first kneading cycle is complete or according to your machine's manual.

I love a good meatloaf. Thai ground beef always seems to be so dry. I would love to try your meatloaf recipe if you have one.

Pattaya is not an island. It is a coastal city, but there are islands near Pattaya. The nearest popular island to Pattaya is Ko Larn, which is a tourist island. Boats go back and forth from Pattaya to Ko Larn all day long.The nearest other two islands that are the most popular are Ko Samet and Ko Chang.

Yes, 130 gigs might be a bit much, but you could at least send your most vital files, the ones you absolutely cannot lose, unless you have scads of those as well. But if you have that much you have to save, then an external hard drive is probably your best solution.

There is a solution to that. Instead of paying a web site to store your stuff, you could simply create an Email address and send your important files to yourself. I doubt that Hotmail or Gmail are going to go under any time soon.

Good point. There is also the issue of something happening to the Thai person. If the house is in a Thai person's name and that person dies, then the ownership of the house goes to the Thai next of kin. Without a lease that next of kin could legally toss you out the door, and horror stories like that are not uncommon.

Yes, but you're not the only Catholic. I think it's better to come up with a hierarchy list that has no potential to offend anyone. After all, suppose a hierarchy list is put into place and someone, or more than just someone, starts complaining. What happens then? The board would have to either ignore the complaints, tell the complainer 'tough luck,' or would still have to change the list to something else. I don't think any of those would be good options when an totally non-offensive list can be done at the outset.

To the right of your user name there is a down-facing arrow. Click on that arrow to open the drop-down list. One of the selections is "My Settings." Click on "My Settings." Now a "Your Options" page will come up. One of the selections is "Blogs." Click on "Blogs" and you will be able to start your own blog.

That's right. Unfortunately for me, like just about everything else I learned the hard way. A few years ago I had a hard drive crash and the drive could not be repaired. I lost everything and had to start from scratch. After that experience I bought an external hard drive and everything important gets backed up on it.
