I just came accross this article, and this surely raises some questions for parents who have school age kids. we're sending my brother to a good international private school that costs around 100k pesos each school year - including books, school bus, school supplies and meals. he only has two classmates, since the school is still new. however, i think the school is really great - his grades have improved (his grades now range from 95 to 98, and in his previous school they were 82 to 90), his english speaking skills have also become better, he is more confident and his social skills are better as well. regular private schools cost only around 20 - 30k pesos per year, but that would mean around 25 to as much as 40 students inside a classroom. I'm thinking of sending my daughter to my brother's school when she's old enough to go to school. Although it's quite expensive for a middle class family like ours, the price might just be worth it. But then I came across this article, and I'm thinking twice of sending my daughter to school for prep. I have this question - most of the nuns I've come accross with, especially the nuns running the school were I studied in my elementary years - were more evil than the common men. They're supposed to be nuns!! Have you noticed that?

Poor man. The thing is, he knows how his country is when it comes to these things. Why come out on TV when he already knows the consequences? I suppose you also heard of that Muslim model/actress who was caned/lashed six times because she was caught drinking beer at a night club. It was the first ever case for women in Malaysia. I have nothing against the strictness of their laws. As they say, to each his own. But if their people already know what would happen to them in case they break their laws - then why break it in the first place?

I think it mostly happens to smaller nuclear families with just one or two adults (who are preoccupied with A LOT of other things) watching over the kids. I think it also has something to do with the lack of personal child care services. In the Philippines, even middle class people can afford to hire nannies to watch over their children, so they aren't left out of sight at all. As a kid, I had a nanny who used a child leash on me. She'd take me to the market and strap the yellow leash on my wrist. To be honest, I liked it. Made me feel more secure. My nanny is now in the United States. Hahaha :-)

And surprisingly, A LOT OF PEOPLE still want him to be president. Where is the sense in that?!

I hate the commercials here for a certain MSG product. They're zero-ing on the "umami" taste of the MSG. It says that umami is supposedly the "fifth taste", and is what makes the certain foods taste so great. It does, of course. But the problem is some people can't cook meals without MSG anymore. I just reprimanded our househelp today because she asked me for money to buy a sachet of MSG to use for dinner. I told her to use salt and black pepper instead. She looked at me with a frown and insisted that her cooking would taste bad. I had to explain to her the negative effects of MSG and all. That's what happens when the media simply provides people with one sided information.

Yes. I think plenty of manufacturing companies now manufacture refill versions of their liquid soaps and shampoos. My husband uses Johnson & Johnson's baby milk bath (bwahahaha..he says it keeps his skin smooth). We have a huge bottle and we just buy refill packs every time we do our groceries.

What a sad thing, indeed. Which brings me to the question - have you ever seen any of those TODDLER HARNESSES? There are plenty of harness versions - there are ones that have stuff toy backpacks, where the child gets to wear the backpack/stuff toy. There are also other harnesses that are attached to the wrist of the child. There's a lot of debate (internal debates - as in self debates in mothers and fathers) going on about this. Some parents don't like to use it because they think it's inhumane because it seems as if they're using a dog leash on their kids. A Healthy Home You don't need to use a slew of disinfectants and bleaches to keep your home clean. You don't need to fill your home (and the environment) with toxic residue from your cleaning products. Here are some simple ways to clean green, without the guilt of shortchanging your family's living environment. Baking Soda. Meet baking soda, the wonder product. You can use baking soda for a lot of things. Sprinkle it on a damp cloth or sponge, and it can work as a gentle and non abrasive countertop cleanser. Use it as well for your bathtubs, sinks, windows, fiber glass and oven. Put a box of baking soda inside your fridge to eliminate refrigerator odors. A cup of baking soda in the laundry takes away the chemical smells caused by bleaches and detergent chemicals. Washing Soda Washing soda is a friendly neighbor of baking soda. Washing soda, or sodium carbonate is a bit stronger in alkalinity, having a pH of around 11. It does not release any harmful fumes when used, and is safer to use than your regular cleaner. Washing soda is perfect for cutting grease, wax, lipstick and petroleum oil. It also absorbs odor just like baking soda. A note of warning, though: wear gloves when using this product since it is caustic. White Vinegar & Lemon Juice These two things are useful for cleaning dirt since they are acidic in nature. They are perfect for neutralizing alkaline substances such as scale caused by hard water. Acids are great for tarnish and gummy build up as well. I just had bi-ko this morning. It's a local Philippine version of the sticky rice and mango - however, we use unrefined brown sugar to sweeten. No mangoes though. Just the sticky rice and sugar. Yummy!
