Wino
This according to Andrew Miga of the Associated Press: Thousands of gay men and women are expected to gather for Sunday's National Equality March. U.S Representative Barney Frank, D- Mass., an openly gay member of Congress, says he would rather see gay rights supporters lobbying their elected officials than marching in Washington this weekend, calling the demonstration "a waste of time at best." Frank said such demonstrations were "an emotional release" that did little to pressure Congress. "The only thing they're going to be putting pressure on is the grass." Do you think Barney is right? Thaifan
No way!!! Lobbying Govt does often have a positive outcome but it takes a long time whereas a public demonstration will hopefully produce faster results. Indeed Obama has already today, reiterated his support but says he still needs to win over both Congress and the Military. Maybe he stands a better chance now that so many people have demonstrated to show support.
Wino
Lobbying your congress representative does make a difference, if the rep hears from enough people.
lvdkeyes
I am in favor of both marching and contacting congressmen.
Beer Chang
Lobbying Congress works for Exxon Mobil. The street is the only place where the people are heard.
Wino
Lobbying Congress works for Exxon Mobil. The street is the only place where the people are heard. Lobbying Congress works for a lot of big corporations. Congressmen usually pay attention when many constituent call about a certain issue.
WannaGo
It's kind of hard to ignore tens of thousands of people standing outside your office window. Well, hard to ignore unless you work for Fox News. Check out what the Daily Show had on how Fox blew off the protesters (so to speak).
rucus7
Marching is a form of exercise, and exercise is beneficial in any form. Awareness will be raised as well.
