Wino
This article by Oliver Teves, a writer for the Associated Press, shows that the Philippine government is behind the times. I suppose the Catholic Church still wields much power. MANILA, Philippines – A Philippine gay rights group is waging a legal battle to be allowed to run in next year's polls after the Elections Commission ruled it cannot register as a political party on grounds that it advocates immorality. http://news.yahoo.co...ines_gay_rights
WannaGo
This was the most disturbing part of the story: "In issuing its decision, the commission said the group 'tolerates immorality which offends religious beliefs' and exposes young people to 'an environment that does not conform to the teachings of our faith.' The ruling cited passages from the Bible and the Quran condemning homosexuality." Unfortunately, even though the US is supposed to practice the separation of church and state, bigoted religious views still sway American policy toward gays. Speaking of which, anyone seen this kid from Arkansas? He said he's decided to stop reciting the Pledge of Allegiance because discrimination against gays means there's not really "liberty and justice for all." Not many things make me proud of being from Arkansas, but this kid managed to do it.
lvdkeyes
The kid has got guts to take such a stand in Arkansas. I applaud him.
WannaGo
Yeah, I loved the part where the kid told the teacher "with all due respect...jump off a bridge."
