Thaimo
I have to agree with lvdkeyes. Years ago the Lek Hotel was very good and the best breakfast deal in Pattaya. Now I wouldn't go if it was free. I heard the restaurant had changed management. Ever since it went downhill and stayed there. The Diana Inn and the Apex are maybe about one notch better than the Lek Hotel. Since the days when the Lek Hotel was good, many more of these kinds of breakfasts have opened in Pattaya. If you want to spend the money, I think about 800 baht, it's hard to beat the breakfast at the Marriott. That Danish restaurant I mentioned earlier on this thread is the best I've found so far in Pattaya.
Wino
You get what you pay for. The Marriott, Royal Cliff, Dusit buffets are usually excellent, but you pay the price. Apex and Lek can be hit or miss but what do you expect for 110 baht? Something simple like scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, coffee and fruit are hard to mess up. You would pay much more for coffee, juice and an egg McMuffin at McDonalds.
Beer Chang
Time of day is probably very important. The earlier the better at buffets. Lek was OK, but I prefer Apex. All you can drink coffee is enough to pay for he meal.
lvdkeyes
I find that most coffee here is instant and not very good. When I want good coffee, other than at home, I go to Starbucks or Black Canyon.
Beer Chang
You're right, the coffee is not very good. I like the coffee that's brewed one cup at a time. Guess u get what u pay for.
Wino
I do not usually like instant coffee, but that Moccona brand is really not too bad.
Beer Chang
At home I buy cheap beans at Freindship, tastes OK and the milk winds up costing more than the coffee.
Wino
The Moccona brand also has roasted and ground coffee for use in a drip coffee maker. Nice robust flavor and it is not expensive.
Beer Chang
Gotta try it, I generally buy beans that are not in a can.
Wino
I buy the coffee at Tops. It comes in a blue box and inside the coffee is a vacuum sealed container. The cost is 89 baht for 250 gm.
Beer Chang
Can you grind the beans at Tops are are they already ground?
Thaimo
Can you grind the beans at Tops are are they already ground? I don't know about Tops, but you can at Villa Market. I am not sure, but I think I might have seen a grinder at Foodland. If you have a recent model blender, many of them come with a coffee grinder attachment and you can grind your coffee at home. I don't like instant coffee either, but the ready ground coffees are good enough for me. There is an inexpensive brand called Doi sold at Villa Market and probably elsewhere too. I like their French Roast and it's only 115 baht for a 250 gram bag. It's a Thai coffee and some of you will frown on that, especially if you are among those who accept the idea that the best coffee necessarily comes from Colombia, but Thailand grows excellent quality coffee and I do recommend giving some of the domestic brands a try. If you like it as I do, you can save a lot of money.
Beer Chang
At Friendship the cheapest coffee is 46 baht for 100 grams and it tastes OK to me but sometimes I splurge and try slightly more expensive ones. I can grind the beans right in the store. I'm under the impression that coffee tastes best if it's brewed soon after grinding.
lvdkeyes
You are right BC, coffee begins to lose flavor as soon as it is ground. It is best to keep even the whole beans in the freezer to preserve the flavor unless you buy small amounts and use them up quickly.
Beer Chang
Should I also keep the ground coffee in the freezer?
lvdkeyes
Yes, I do when I buy ground coffee.
Beer Chang
Thanks lvdkeyes! If I take coffee out of the bag and put it in a glass coffee container, I can put that in the freezer, right? Or will the glass crack?
lvdkeyes
It depends on the kind of glass. I just put the bag the coffee comes in into a Ziplock bag and into the freezer. For one thing the Ziplock takes up less room that a glass container.

I think it is as good as the beans you grind in the store.
