Beer Chang
The Who are performing at halftime of the SB. They'll be doing a 15 song medley of their greatest hits.
Beer Chang
If you don't like The Who, you can watch the Lingerie Bowl online. http://www.lflus.com/
Beer Chang
I like the Who but thought the show was lame. It just seems odd to have 60 year olds performing and acting like their 20.
Wino
I liked the Who in their heyday. I didn't see the halftime show, but agree it is odd for 60 something performers trying to recreate the past.
Beer Chang
On the other hand, a performer who sings standards can keep going forever as long as his voice holds up. But if the rock n rollers look pathetic, wait till gangsta rappers in their 60's perform at halftime in 2035.
Wino
Frank Sinatra still had a voice in his golden years and looked alright. Some of these fat, balding, old rockers just look silly to me.
Beer Chang
Sinatra would look silly too if he dressed like Roger Daltry.

Bob
Mick Jagger's in fantastic shape for his age. But it doesn't matter to me, every time I see him I'm aware he's over 65 and I wonder why he's still at it.
Beer Chang
Just saw a rerun of the Super Bowl. Daltry and Townshend looked horrible plus the sound and video seemed out of synch. The camera focused quite a bit on the youngish drummer.
Wino
Why don't these guys retire gracefully? Do they need the money?
Beer Chang
My guess is that despite the millions they made that they still need the money.
Wino
No matter how much money one has, it seems you can always use a little more. Or maybe they just love to play music in front of a large audience? For some that is an adrenaline rush.
Bob
No matter how much money one has, it seems you can always use a little more. Or maybe they just love to play music in front of a large audience? For some that is an adrenaline rush. For guys like Jagger, it'd be hard to contemplate that he would need the money. But I would imagine that they simply have to get the adrenaline rush, as you say, of performing live before adoring fans. And, for some of them, it's probably fun in part to perform and to be around your long-time friends. While most of them probably love their home life and private time, the urge to essentially go party and be treated like royalty has to tug at their hearts occasionally. Beer Chang
Think it's a combination of the above factors.
Wino
Mick Jagger probably doesn't need the money, but as much money Michael Jackson earned in his lifetime, you wouldn't have thought he needed to return touring.
Beer Chang
Lots of entertainers and sports stars end up bankrupt.
Wino
Some shooting stars spend their money like it will never end. It is quite a wake-up call when they find they are down and out in Beverly Hills.
Bob
Some shooting stars spend their money like it will never end. It is quite a wake-up call when they find they are down and out in Beverly Hills. Always amazing to see people that have earned millions piss it all away. But a lot of them were young and stupid (versus "old and stupid", I suppose), had no clue how to manage money, and presumed it would last forever. I remember when my home state started the state lottery some 30(?) years ago or so. The original deal was for a million dollars (but paid at the rate of $50,000.00 a year for 20 years) and too many of the winners were dumb enough to think they were millionaires. Supposedly, 4 out of the first 7 winners ended up filing bankruptcy.
Beer Chang
Think it's extremely common for lottery winners to go bankrupt. Playing lotteries in the extreme amounts that most winners do, shows poor money management skills to start off with.
Wino
Playing lotteries in the extreme amounts that most winners do, shows poor money management skills to start off with. You are more likely to be struck by lightning on the way to buying your ticket, than in winning the jackpot. I guess people figure somebody has to win, why not me? graymo
The half-time show certainly wasn't one of the bands best but go back less than 5 years to Live Aid in Hyde Park and it was the 'old boys' who blew away all the youngsters that day. The Who and Pink Floyd were superb musically no matter their age. As to why they carry on, well, not for me to speak for them but if it were me I imagine that I'd probably still love it. Beer Chang
Talking about Live Aid, I was at the one in Philly in the mid 80's. At that one, Led Zep was the band that blew everyone away.
graymo
Talking about Led Zep, Jimmy Page might look like Gandalf now but he still plays guitar like the master he is. Looking forward to seeing 'It Might Get Loud' - Anyone seen that yet?
Beer Chang
What impressed me about Led Zep was that I'm not a fan of there's so i was surprised that I thought they were much better that day than bands I really liked. When they played, "Whole Lotta Love" it seemed a surge of sexual energy electrified the crowd.
